He continued to guest on programmes such as The Outer Limits and Caroline in the City, and had a role, as Hideki Tanaka, in Baywatch. In 1976, he became the first Asian-American to star in an American TV series, the failed sit-com Mr T and Tina in 1987, after becoming an iconic face through Karate Kid, he created and starred in Ohara, a shortlived, but admirable detective show. He found more success on television, first with guest spots on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, M*A*S*H and Sanford and Son, then as Arnold, owner of the teenage hang-out, in Happy Days.
